Short description
Theresa Jones brings her boyfriend Simon Green home to meet her parents, Percy and Marilyn, at a party celebrating the couple's twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. Percy prides himself on always being right, especially about what is best for his family, and he has looked into Simon's background before the visit. What Percy has not been told, and what Simon and Theresa are keeping back, is that Simon is white; the plan is to announce their engagement during the celebration. Percy's disapproval, and a further secret about Simon's employment, put the couple's plans under strain.
Released in 2005, the film is a romantic comedy directed by Kevin Rodney Sullivan, following his earlier How Stella Got Her Groove Back (1998) and Barbershop 2: Back in Business (2004). Peter Tolan, David Ronn and Jay Scherick wrote the screenplay, and the cast includes Bernie Mac as Percy, Ashton Kutcher as Simon, Zoe Saldaña as Theresa, Judith Scott as Marilyn, Hal Williams as Howard and Kellee Stewart as Keisha.
Made for 35 million dollars, the film took 103 million dollars worldwide, a return well above its production cost. On IMDb it holds 5.9/10 from 48,000 votes, and on TMDB 6/10 from 1,027 votes, while the critics' rating stands at 5.5/10 from 146 reviews, placing it in similar territory to the audience scores.

- In some Spanish-speaking countries, the film is called «Conquistando a mi Suegro» ( "How I Won Over My Father-in-Law").
- Kevin Rodney Sullivan said he took on this film because he has a daughter who he thinks might one day start dating a Samoan-type rock drummer, and this project would give him a chance to work through his issues before that day comes.
- During pre-production, Ashton Kutcher suggested that Simon Green should be Jewish, and that this would add another source of conflict with Percy Jones (a Christian), but director Sullivan rejected this idea, as he wanted to focus on the issue of interracial marriage, without the element of religious difference.
- Ashton Kutcher refused to remove his Kabbalistic bracelet during filming. The film's creators spent $100,000 to digitally remove the bracelet, but it can still be clearly seen in some shots, particularly during the breakfast scene.
