In New Orleans, detective Wes Block is assigned to a string of killings targeting young women in the French Quarter. As he works the case, he finds his own life entangled with it: victims turn out to be women he knew, and the killer seems to know him in return. A colleague from a self-defense center, Beryl Thibodeaux, becomes involved both in the investigation and in his personal life, while Block's two daughters, Amanda and Penny, are drawn into the danger. The pursuit becomes a psychological contest between hunter and hunted.
Richard Tuggle directed and wrote the film, which was produced by Clint Eastwood and Fritz Manes through Warner Bros. and Malpaso Productions. Eastwood stars as Block, with Geneviève Bujold as Beryl Thibodeaux, Dan Hedaya as Det. Molinari, Marco St. John as Leander Rolfe, and Eastwood's daughter Alison as Amanda, alongside Jenny Beck as Penny. The film runs 115 minutes and was released in August 1984.
It took in about 48 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.3 out of 10 from roughly 21,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.2 out of 10 from about 400 votes, while a critics' rating stands at 6.7 out of 10 from 14 reviews. The audience scores sit close to that critics' figure, indicating a generally moderate reception rather than a sharply divided one.
