Peter's Friends

Peter's Friends follows a group of Cambridge graduates who reunite a decade after leaving university. Peter Morton, who has inherited his late father's country estate, invites his former classmates to spend New Year's Eve with him. Among the guests are Andrew, a writer, and his American television-star wife; the married couple Roger and Mary; the single Maggie; the fashionable Sarah, who brings her new boyfriend Brian; and Carol. The friends have taken very different paths since their student days, and the gathering soon exposes tensions, secrets and disappointments beneath the surface of the celebration.

Kenneth Branagh directed and produced the film, working from a screenplay by Rita Rudner and Martin Bergman. It was his third film as director in chronological order, following Dead Again and preceding Swan Song. The cast includes Branagh as Andrew, Stephen Fry as Peter, Emma Thompson as Maggie, Hugh Laurie as Roger, Imelda Staunton as Mary and Alphonsia Emmanuel as Sarah, with a running time of 101 minutes.

Peter's Friends was released in September 1992. Made on a budget of 5 million dollars, it returned 4 million dollars at the worldwide box office.
