Mad Money

Bridget Cardigan has spent years living comfortably while her husband, Don, kept quiet about losing his job as a corporate executive. When the money runs out and the couple faces losing their home, Bridget takes the only work she can find: cleaning at the Federal Reserve Bank in Kansas City. There she meets Nina Brewster, a single mother who spends her shifts feeding worn-out bills into a shredder, and Jackie Truman, who moves the currency from place to place. All three need money, and Bridget realizes the damaged notes destroyed every day could be diverted rather than incinerated. The plan they put together brings them cash far beyond their wages, but their sudden spending attracts the attention of a Treasury investigator.

Mad Money was released in 2008 and runs 104 minutes. Callie Khouri directed it, after her earlier film, Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, with Patsy & Loretta following later in her career. Glenn Gers wrote the screenplay, and Diane Keaton, Queen Latifah and Katie Holmes lead the cast as Bridget, Nina and Jackie, with Ted Danson as Don. It is an American crime comedy produced by Millennium Media, Overture Films, Swingin' Productions and Granada Productions.

The film holds a 5.9 rating on IMDb from around 24,000 votes, a 6.5 on TMDB from a much smaller base of 733, and a critics' score of 4.6 from 104 reviews. Viewers rate it more kindly than critics do, though none of the scores point to a strong reception.
