In an Argentine prison during the military dictatorship of the early 1980s, two men with little in common end up sharing a cell. Valentín Arregui is a political prisoner, while Luis Molina was convicted for public indecency. To endure the grim conditions, Molina retells the story of a Hollywood musical built around Ingrid Luna, the screen diva he adores. A bond forms between the two men, but the warden pressures Molina to extract information from his cellmate in exchange for an early release, leaving him to choose between loyalty and freedom.
Bill Condon directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Fred Ebb, adapting the story made famous by Manuel Puig's novel and the earlier stage musical. It is Condon's eleventh feature, arriving after The Good Liar and continuing his long engagement with musicals and biographical drama. Diego Luna plays Valentín, Tonatiuh plays Molina, and Jennifer Lopez takes the role of Ingrid Luna. Bruno Bichir, Josefina Scaglione and Aline Mayagoitia appear in supporting parts, with a credited cast of 74 and crew of 95.
Produced by Nuyorican Productions, Josephson Entertainment, Artists Equity and 1000 Eyes at a budget of 34 million USD, the film was released on 9 October 2025 and took about 2 million USD worldwide. On TMDB it holds a rating of 5.8 out of 10 from 86 votes, indicating a muted response from the viewers who have seen it.
