Spring Breakers
Short description
Four college friends, bored with dormitory life and short of money for spring break, rob a restaurant to pay for a trip to Florida. Their getaway takes a turn when police detain them during a party, and a local figure named Alien posts their bail. A rapper, drug dealer and arms trafficker, he sees the young women as useful recruits, and the arrangement draws them into his dispute with a rival, Archie. The story follows the group as the vacation gives way to criminal work.
Harmony Korine wrote and directed the film, which followed Trash Humpers in his filmography and preceded The Beach Bum. James Franco plays Alien, with Selena Gomez as Faith, Vanessa Hudgens as Candy, Ashley Benson as Brit and Rachel Anna Simon as Cotty. Gucci Mane appears as Archie. The production, made across Mexico, the United States and France by Muse Productions, Radar Pictures, Iconoclast and Rabbit Bandini Productions, cost about 5 million USD and returned roughly 32 million USD worldwide.
On IMDb the film holds 5.3 out of 10 from about 154,000 votes, and on TMDB it has 5.3 out of 10 from around 4,000 votes. A critics' rating of 6.5 out of 10 from 200 reviews places professional assessments noticeably higher than the audience scores on both platforms.
