Short description

Kit Preston, an American married to a wealthy British financier, has settled into life in London, where her husband's work often keeps him away. One foggy evening she hears a voice threatening her life, and the threats continue by telephone in the days that follow. She turns to her husband, a friend and the police, but without proof of who is behind the calls, no one takes her fears seriously. When she narrowly escapes a serious accident, those close to her begin to wonder whether the danger is real.

David Miller directed the film, which came roughly eight years after his Sudden Fear and stands between it and Back Street in a run of six features he made from 1949 to 1963. Doris Day plays Kit, with Rex Harrison as her husband Anthony, John Gavin as Brian Younger, Myrna Loy as Aunt Bea, Roddy McDowall as Malcolm and Herbert Marshall as Charles Manning. Ivan Goff and Ben Roberts wrote the screenplay, and Ross Hunter and Martin Melcher produced.

The film took about 7 million dollars worldwide and runs just over an hour and three quarters. On IMDb it holds 6.8/10 from around 6,600 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.6/10 from a much smaller group of 132 voters. A critics' rating of 6.4/10 from six reviews places it close to the audience scores.
