Short description

The Revengers is a 1972 Western about a rancher whose life is shattered when his family is killed and his farm destroyed. John Benedict gathers a posse made up of hardened convicts, men he releases from prison to help him track down those responsible. As the pursuit goes on, Benedict finds that the criminals he has recruited are unpredictable and dangerous in their own right, raising the question of whether they will carry out the job or turn on him.

Directed by Daniel Mann, the film sits between Willard (1971) and the earlier studio work that runs through his career. Wendell Mayes wrote the screenplay, and Martin Rackin produced the Mexico–United States co-production. William Holden plays Benedict, with Ernest Borgnine, Woody Strode, Susan Hayward, Roger Hanin and Reinhard Kolldehoff among the main cast.

Released in June 1972, the film runs 106 minutes and mixes action, crime and Western elements. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.1 from roughly 1,600 votes, while on TMDB the rating is 5.7 from around 40 votes. The larger and more established IMDb sample points to a moderate, middling response rather than strong enthusiasm.
