Call Girl

Call Girl is set in Stockholm in the late 1970s, where the polished image of Swedish society conceals a thriving sex trade operating close to government offices and juvenile institutions. The story follows Iris, a young woman from the bottom of society who is drawn into that world and becomes an exclusive call girl serving powerful clients, including figures in politics. What begins as a way into a life of expensive clothes and luxury turns into involvement in a police investigation reaching the highest levels of power.

The film is directed by Mikael Marcimain, whose first feature this is; it precedes his later films Horizon Line and An Honest Life. Marietta von Hausswolff von Baumgarten wrote the screenplay, and Mimmi Spång produced. Sofia Karemyr plays Iris, with Josefin Asplund, Ruth Vega Fernandez, Pernilla August, Simon J. Berger and Sven Nordin among the credited cast of 51. The 140-minute drama-thriller was made for about 5 million USD.

Its theatrical returns were modest, at roughly 2 million USD worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.5 out of 10 from about 5,100 votes, while on TMDB it has 6.4 out of 10 from 81 votes. A critics' rating of 7 out of 10 from 14 reviews places it somewhat above the two audience scores, which agree closely with each other.
