Nico and Dani

Dani, sixteen, has the family home on the Mediterranean to himself for the summer, and he invites Nico, his closest friend since childhood, to keep him company. The two set themselves a goal for the holidays: to lose their virginity. Nico pursues Elena and Dani is paired off with Berta, but Dani finds his attention pulling elsewhere, toward Nico himself, and jealousy and silence settle over the friendship. The arrival of Julián, a writer and an old friend of Dani's father who is openly gay, adds another complication to a summer in which both boys cross the line between adolescence and adulthood. The film is set in Spain in 1999.

Cesc Gay directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Tomàs Aragay; Gerardo Herrero produced. It was Gay's second feature, arriving seven years after his debut Krakers: A Chair, a Table and a Bed, and comes long before the later films Truman, The People Upstairs, My Friend Eva and 53 Sundays. Fernando Ramallo plays Dani and Jordi Vilches plays Nico, with Marieta Orozco as Elena, Esther Nubiola as Berta, Chisco Amado as Julián and Ana Gracia as Sonia.

On IMDb the film holds a critics' rating of 6.6/10 from 55 reviews, while users on TMDB give it 5.9/10 from 79 votes, a narrower gap between professional and audience response than is often the case.
