Teeth

Teeth is a 2008 American comedy-horror film written and directed by Mitchell Lichtenstein, marking his feature debut. It centres on Dawn O'Keefe, a high-school student in a small American town who is an enthusiastic member of her school's chastity club, partly as a reaction to the behaviour of her unruly half-brother Brad. When she becomes involved with a boy named Tobey, their first sexual encounter ends violently, and Dawn discovers that her body has a rare and dangerous physical trait rooted in the vagina dentata myth. Unsure at first how to live with what she is, she gradually comes to terms with it.

Lichtenstein also produced the film with Joyce Pierpoline. Jess Weixler plays Dawn, with John Hensley as Brad, Josh Pais as Dr. Godfrey, Hale Appleman as Tobey, Lenny Von Dohlen as Bill and Vivienne Benesch as Kim, among a credited cast of 27. It runs 94 minutes.

Made for about 2 million dollars and taking a similar amount at the worldwide box office, the film drew modest audiences during its theatrical run. On IMDb it holds 5.4 out of 10 from around 49,000 votes, while on TMDB it also sits at 5.4, from 832 votes. A critics' rating of 6.6 out of 10 from 74 reviews places it clearly above the audience scores, suggesting reviewers responded more favourably to its satirical approach than general viewers did. Lichtenstein followed it with Happy Tears in 2009.
