Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay

Harold and Kumar plan to fly to Amsterdam so Harold can pursue Maria, the woman he is interested in, while Kumar looks forward to the trip's possibilities. Their plans collapse at the airport, where Kumar is mistaken for a terrorist. The misunderstanding sends the two friends into the hands of the authorities, and they end up held at the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay. They escape and make their way across the United States, hoping to reach Texas, where a connection to the White House might help them clear their names, while federal agents pursue them.

Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg directed and wrote the film, their first feature behind the camera; they went on to direct American Reunion in 2012. John Cho and Kal Penn return as Harold Lee and Kumar Patel, with Neil Patrick Harris appearing as a version of himself, Rob Corddry as Ron Fox, Roger Bart as Dr. Jack Beecher and Danneel Ackles as Vanessa Fanning. The production, from New Line Cinema and Mandate Pictures, had a budget of 12 million USD.

Released in April 2008 and running 101 minutes, the comedy earned about 43 million USD worldwide, well above its cost.
