The Unborn

Casey Beldon is a young woman haunted by nightmares and by a ghostly presence that seems to be reaching for her even while she is awake. Estranged from the mother who abandoned her as a child, she begins to look into her family's past and finds a history reaching back to Nazi Germany, connected to a spirit from Jewish folklore that wants a body of its own. Turning for help to Rabbi Joseph Sendak, a specialist in the supernatural, Casey sets out to end the hold the entity has on her family.

The Unborn was directed by David S. Goyer, who also wrote the screenplay, following his earlier work on Blade: Trinity and The Invisible. The cast is led by Odette Annable as Casey, with Cam Gigandet as her boyfriend Mark, Gary Oldman as Sendak and Idris Elba as Arthur Wyndham. Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Bradley Fuller produced through Platinum Dunes.

Released in January 2009, the film had a budget of about 16 million dollars and took roughly 77 million dollars worldwide. Audiences have been lukewarm: on IMDb it holds 4.7 out of 10 from around 55,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.2 out of 10 from about 1,500 votes.
