Scarfies

A group of university students in New Zealand move into a large, seemingly abandoned house for free. Their situation improves when they discover a marijuana plantation in the basement, which they harvest and sell for a significant profit. After spending most of the money, the group faces a crisis when the original owner returns to reclaim his property and the funds. In a state of panic, the students trap the man in the basement, leading to a confrontation as he threatens them.

This dark comedy and thriller was directed by Robert Sarkies and co-written by him and Duncan Sarkies. It is the first of two listed films in the director's career, followed by Pike River in 2025. The cast includes Willa O'Neill, Taika Waititi, Charlie Bleakley, Neill Rea, Ashleigh Seagar, and Jon Brazier. Produced by Lisa Chatfield and supported by the New Zealand Film Commission and Nightmare Productions, the movie was made with a budget of 2 million USD.
