Nick Murder is an ironworker who builds and repairs bridges, married to Kitty, a seamstress, and father to three daughters. When he begins an affair with a younger woman named Tula, his marriage is thrown into crisis and Kitty throws him out of the house, leaving him to confront the damage he has caused. The film unfolds as a musical, with characters breaking into song when ordinary words no longer carry what they feel.

John Turturro directed and wrote the screenplay, and produced it with John Penotti. It is the second of the five features he has directed, following Illuminata and preceding Fading Gigolo. James Gandolfini plays Nick, with Susan Sarandon as Kitty, Kate Winslet as Tula, and supporting turns from Steve Buscemi, Bobby Cannavale and Mandy Moore. The large production, with 87 credited cast members and 150 credited crew, was mounted by United Artists, Icon Entertainment International and GreeneStreet Films across the United Kingdom and the United States.

The film runs 105 minutes and was released in September 2005, taking about 3 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.2 out of 10 from roughly 13,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.1 out of 10 from a much smaller 171 votes.
