Recount dramatizes the five weeks of legal and political maneuvering that followed the 2000 United States presidential election, when the outcome hinged on Florida. With George W. Bush and Al Gore separated by a razor-thin margin, the state's vote count became the focus of a battle waged in courtrooms and in public. The film follows the advisers and lawyers on both sides as they argue over whether and how to recount the ballots, a dispute that ultimately reached the Supreme Court.
Jay Roach directed the film, the seventh of fourteen features he has directed in chronological order, coming between Meet the Fockers and Dinner for Schmucks. Danny Strong wrote the screenplay, and Michael Hausman produced. Kevin Spacey plays Ron Klain, with Bob Balaban, Ed Begley Jr., Laura Dern, John Hurt and Denis Leary among the large credited cast of 66.
Released in 2008, the television drama runs 116 minutes. It holds a 7.3 rating on IMDb from around 14,000 votes and a 6.8 on TMDB from roughly 189 votes. A critics' rating of 7.6 from 32 reviews places it somewhat above the audience scores on both platforms.
