Strange Wilderness is a 2008 American adventure comedy about a struggling wildlife television program whose ratings have fallen so low that the network is ready to cancel it. Its host, Peter, inherited the show from his father, and with the help of his friend Fred and the rest of the unprofessional crew, he looks for a way to save it. The plan they settle on is to travel to South America and capture footage of Bigfoot, hoping the creature will draw viewers back to the program.
Fred Wolf directed the film and wrote the screenplay with Peter Gaulke, who also produced it. It was Wolf's second feature as director, following The House Bunny the same year, and it came before Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser and later comedies such as Drunk Parents. Steve Zahn plays Peter and Allen Covert plays Fred, with Jonah Hill, Kevin Heffernan, Ashley Scott and Jeff Garlin among the credited cast of twenty.
The film was made for a budget of 15 million USD and grossed 7 million USD worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.2 out of 10 from around 24,000 votes, while on TMDB its rating is 4.9 out of 10 from 257 votes, indicating a modest audience response on both platforms.
