Short description

Somers Town is a comedy-drama set in the London district of the same name, the area between King's Cross and Euston stations. Tomo, a teenager who has run away from Nottingham, arrives in the capital with no money and nowhere to stay. There he meets Marek, the son of a Polish immigrant worker employed on a new rail link, and the two outsiders form an unlikely friendship over a hot summer.

The film was directed by Shane Meadows and follows Dead Man's Shoes (2004) and This Is England (2007) in his filmography. It was produced by Barnaby Spurrier through Big Arty Productions. Thomas Turgoose plays Tomo and Piotr Jagiello plays Marek, with Elisa Lasowski, Kate Dickie, Perry Benson and Ireneusz Czop in supporting roles. The production credits list 53 crew members, and the film runs 71 minutes.

Released on 22 August 2008, Somers Town received a critics' rating of 7.4 out of 10 from 54 reviews, while audiences rated it 6.8 out of 10 on IMDb from around 6,900 votes and also 6.8 out of 10 on TMDB, though from a much smaller base of 103 votes. The agreement between the two audience scores suggests a consistently favourable, if not enthusiastic, response from viewers.
