Love on Trial

Love on Trial follows Mai, an emerging J-Pop star whose career is jeopardized when she enters a romantic relationship. In an industry that demands a public image of purity, her contract explicitly forbids dating. Once her secret relationship is revealed, her talent agency initiates legal action against her and her partner to enforce the no-love clause, leading to a court battle over their right to be together.

This drama and romance film was directed by Koji Fukada, who also wrote the screenplay alongside Shintaro Mitani. It is the second film in a sequence of works by Fukada, following Love Life and preceding Nagi Notes. The production was a joint effort between France and Japan, involving TOHO Studios, TOHO, Lawson, and the Hubert Bals Fund. The main cast features Kyoko Saito in the lead role of Mai Yamaoka, supported by Yuki Kura, Yuna Nakamura, Miyu Ogawa, Mitsuki Imamura, and Hinano Sakura, with a total of 30 credited cast members.
