Set in 1935, this historical drama and comedy follows the efforts of coach Valdemars Baumanis to form a Latvian basketball team for the first European Championship in Geneva. At a time when the sport was largely unknown across Europe, several national teams gathered to compete for the inaugural title. Baumanis faces various obstacles while preparing his squad, eventually discovering that both victory and loss are inherent to the game, though he receives support from those closest to him.
The film was directed by Aigars Grauba, who also co-wrote the screenplay. This was the first of two films listed in his career, followed by The Pagan King in 2018. The cast features Jānis Amanis in the lead role as Baumanis, alongside Inga Alsiņa-Lasmane, Vilis Daudziņš, Mārcis Maņjakovs, Jānis Vimba, and Artūrs Putniņš. Produced by Platforma Filma in Latvia, the movie had a budget of 3 million USD. Audience reception has been positive, as indicated by a 7.8 rating on IMDb based on 1,800 votes.
