The Young and Prodigious T.S. Spivet

T.S. Spivet is a ten-year-old boy with a gift for cartography and invention who lives with his family on a Montana ranch. His father is a cowboy at heart, his mother studies insects, and his sister dreams of pageants, while T.S. spends his time drawing maps of everything around him. When a scientific institution in Washington, D.C. awards him a prestigious prize for a device he built, he slips away from home without telling anyone and rides a freight train across the country toward the capital, where nobody expects the winner to be a child.

Jean-Pierre Jeunet directed and co-wrote the film with Guillaume Laurant, adapting Reif Larsen's novel. It arrived in 2013, the seventh feature in the director's filmography and his first since Micmacs in 2009, and it was made partly in English with an international cast. Kyle Catlett plays the boy, with Helena Bonham Carter as his mother, Judy Davis as a Smithsonian official, and Callum Keith Rennie as his father. Jeunet also produced the film, which was shot in Canada and France on a budget of 33 million dollars but took only about 9 million worldwide.

On IMDb the film holds 7 out of 10 from roughly 21,000 votes, and on TMDB it sits at 6.9 from around 900 votes. A critics' rating of 6.1 from 49 reviews places it slightly below the audience scores.
