Paulette

Paulette is an elderly woman living by herself in a housing estate on the outskirts of Paris. Her small pension no longer covers her expenses, and debts are piling up. After witnessing a drug deal near her building, she decides to sell cannabis herself. Her background as a pastry chef gives her an unexpected edge in a trade she knows nothing about, and her new activity brings her into contact with local dealers, neighbours, friends and family who all take an interest in what she is doing.

The French comedy was directed by Jérôme Enrico, working from a screenplay by Laurie Aubanel, Bianca Olsen and Cyril Rambour. Bernadette Lafont plays Paulette, with Carmen Maura, Dominique Lavanant, Françoise Bertin, André Penvern and Axelle Laffont in supporting roles. It runs 87 minutes and was produced by Gaumont, France 2 Cinéma and Légende Films.

Released in 2012, the film took about 15 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.6 out of 10 from around 8,000 votes, and on TMDB a rating of 6.5 out of 10 from 426 votes. The two audience scores sit close together, indicating a broadly similar reception across both platforms.
