Death Note: The Last Name

Death Note: The Last Name continues the story begun in the 2006 adaptation of the manga. Light Yagami, who kills criminals by writing their names in a notebook, has joined the police task force hunting the mysterious killer known as Kira, working alongside the detective L, who suspects him. A second notebook falls into the hands of Misa Amane, a young woman devoted to Kira, and her arrival gives Light a possible ally against L. The two sides circle each other as the investigation tightens.

Shusuke Kaneko directed, following his earlier Death Note film from the same year and coming after Azumi 2: Death or Love; Tetsuya Oishi wrote the screenplay. Tatsuya Fujiwara and Kenichi Matsuyama return as Light and L, with Erika Toda, Nana Katase, Magi and Sakura Uehara among the credited cast of 25. Made for a reported 17 million dollars, it took about 48 million worldwide.
