Little Manhattan

Little Manhattan is a romantic comedy about Gabe, an eleven-year-old boy living on Manhattan's Upper West Side. His world is small and familiar: his three best friends, basketball, and the handful of blocks around his home, while his parents live together even though their marriage is falling apart. Gabe has never paid much attention to girls until he meets Rosemary Telesco at his karate class. He has known her since they were small, but only now does he begin to have feelings he does not fully understand. When Rosemary tells him she is leaving for summer camp and will probably move to a private school afterwards, Gabe decides he has to act if he wants to keep her in his life.

Mark Levin directed the film, his first feature, and went on to direct Nim's Island three years later. Jennifer Flackett wrote the screenplay. Josh Hutcherson plays Gabe, Charlie Ray plays Rosemary, and Bradley Whitford and Cynthia Nixon appear as his parents. The film was released in 2005 and runs ninety minutes.

It opened in a single market on a limited basis and took about one million dollars worldwide at the box office, a modest return for a small-scale release. Its audience ratings are solid and consistent, with 7.4 out of 10 on IMDb from around 26,000 votes and 7.2 out of 10 on TMDB from a smaller pool of voters. The critics' score of 7.2 out of 10 from 31 reviews sits close to what viewers gave it, suggesting broad agreement on the film's merits.
