Set during the summer of 1683, this historical drama focuses on the Ottoman Empire's attempt to conquer Europe by besieging Vienna. The narrative follows the efforts of Marco D'Aviano, a monk who warns the nobility and Emperor Leopold I about the impending threat, and the military strategy of King Jan III Sobieski of Poland. These events culminate in a major confrontation on September 11 between the Turkish forces, led by Grand Vizier Kara Mustafa, and the Polish cavalry.
The film was directed by Renzo Martinelli, who also served as a producer and co-writer alongside Valerio Massimo Manfredi. It is the second film directed by Martinelli, following his 2009 work Barbarossa. The ensemble cast includes F. Murray Abraham, Enrico Lo Verso, Jerzy Skolimowski, Piotr Adamczyk, and Alicja Bachleda-Curuś.
Produced through a collaboration between Italy, Poland, and Romania, the production had a budget of 16 million USD. Audience reception has been low, with a rating of 4.3/10 on TMDB based on 54 votes.
