Big Ass Spider!

Big Ass Spider! follows an exterminator named Alex Mathis who, after a routine hospital visit, finds himself dealing with something far outside his usual line of work. A spider that escaped from a military laboratory has grown to enormous size and is loose in Los Angeles, leaving the authorities unable to stop it. Alex teams up with hospital security guard Jose Ramos, and the two set out to destroy the creature before it can bring the city down.

Mike Mendez directed the film from a screenplay by Gregory Gieras, with Patrick Ewald, Shaked Berenson and Klaus von Sayn-Wittgenstein producing. Greg Grunberg leads the cast as Alex, alongside Lombardo Boyar, Clare Kramer, Ray Wise, Lin Shaye and Patrick Bauchau. The film runs 81 minutes and was released in October 2013, placing it first among the seven features Mendez has directed.

On IMDb, the film holds a rating of 5.3 from around 8,200 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.6 from roughly 283 votes. A critics' rating of 5.7 from 27 reviews puts it slightly above the audience scores on both platforms. The modest vote totals point to a genre title with a small but steady following rather than a wide mainstream reach.
