Short description

Hellraiser: Deader follows Amy Klein, a London newspaper reporter who travels to Bucharest to investigate a secret cult known as the Deaders. The group claims it can bring the dead back to life, and a videotape showing one of its members returning from death draws Amy into their world. What begins as an investigation becomes a struggle for survival once the cult's activities collide with Pinhead, the leader of the Cenobites, and the puzzle box tied to them. Amy's search for the truth about the Deaders puts her at the centre of a conflict between the two leaders and draws her toward a secret about herself, with the line between reality and nightmare increasingly blurred.

The film is the seventh entry in the Hellraiser series and the third directed by Rick Bota, following Hellraiser: Hellseeker and Hellraiser: Hellworld, both released earlier in the same period. Kari Wuhrer leads the cast as Amy Klein, with Paul Rhys as Winter, Simon Kunz as Charles Richmond, Marc Warren as Joey, Georgina Rylance as Marla and Maria Pintea as Young Amy. It was written by Tim Day and Neal Marshall Stevens and produced by Stan Winston and Ron Schmidt, with Dimension Films, Castel Film, Neo Art & Logic and Stan Winston Productions among the companies behind it.

Made on a budget of four million dollars and running 89 minutes, the film was released in June 2005. On TMDB it holds a rating of 4.6 out of 10 from 393 votes, indicating a muted response from viewers.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The original script had nothing in common with the backstory of Clive Barker's saga, but when the producers managed to acquire the rights to use the profitable title, screenwriter Tim Day rewrote the script and added Pinhead and the cenobites.
  • The film was shot simultaneously with the eighth movie.
