Europa Report follows a privately funded mission to Europa, one of Jupiter's moons, where scientists believe a liquid ocean beneath the ice may hold conditions for life. A six-person international crew makes the long journey to investigate. When contact with Earth is lost partway through the mission, the astronauts continue their work on their own, recording their progress as they explore the moon's surface and what lies beneath it.
The film is directed by Sebastián Cordero, whose earlier features include Crónicas (2004) and Pescador (2011); Europa Report (2013) was his third film, followed later by Rosa's Waltz (2026). Philip Gelatt wrote the screenplay, Ben Browning produced, and the cast includes Anamaria Marinca, Michael Nyqvist, Sharlto Copley, Daniel Wu, Karolina Wydra and Christian Camargo. Presented largely through footage recorded by the crew, it combines science fiction with drama and thriller elements across a 90-minute runtime, and was produced in the United States by Misher Films, Start Motion Pictures and Wayfare Entertainment.
On TMDB it holds a rating of 6.3 out of 10 from more than 1,600 votes, indicating a modest but steady level of viewer interest rather than broad acclaim. The film sits between Cordero's earlier, smaller-scale work and the later Rosa's Waltz in his filmography, and it marked one of his moves into English-language science fiction.
