Tom at the Farm

Tom travels from the city to a remote rural community for the funeral of his lover, Guillaume, who died in an accident. Arriving at the family's isolated farm, he finds that no one there knows who he is or what he meant to the dead man. Guillaume's mother, Agathe, is unaware that her son was gay, and the family believes he was involved with a young woman named Sarah.

Guillaume's brother Francis makes clear that this version of events must be preserved, and draws Tom into a charged and increasingly controlling game of role-playing meant to protect the mother and the family's standing. What begins as a performance becomes a toxic entanglement that tightens around Tom as he struggles to keep the truth hidden. The film was directed by Xavier Dolan, its sixth feature, following Mommy and released the same year, and written by Dolan with Michel Marc Bouchard, based on Bouchard's play. Dolan also produced and stars as Tom, alongside Pierre-Yves Cardinal as Francis, Lise Roy as Agathe and Evelyne Brochu as Sarah.

On IMDb the film holds a rating of 6.9 from around 20,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.8 from roughly 871 votes. A critics' rating of 7.1 from 71 reviews places it in similar territory to those audience scores.
