Bronson

Bronson is a British biographical crime drama about Michael Peterson, a young man from a middle-class background who attempts an armed robbery on a post office in 1974. He is caught and sentenced to seven years, but his behaviour inside prison — violence against staff and other inmates, and further offences — keeps extending his time behind bars. Over the decades he adopts the name Charles Bronson, and much of his sentence is served in solitary confinement, where his combative public persona takes shape.

The film was directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, who wrote the screenplay with Brock Norman Brock. It followed his three Pusher films and Fear X and Bleeder, and came before Valhalla Rising, Drive and later features. Tom Hardy plays Peterson, with supporting roles for Matt King, James Lance, Kelly Adams and Amanda Burton. Shot in the United Kingdom and Denmark, the film is a stylised account of a man who became one of Britain's best-known long-term prisoners.

Bronson took about 2 million dollars at the worldwide box office, a modest figure for a release of this kind. On IMDb it holds 7 out of 10 from roughly 149,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.9 from around 2,800 votes. The film critics' rating stands at 6.8 from 80 reviews, placing critics and general audiences in close agreement on the film.
