Borgman

Camiel Borgman, a mysterious vagrant, arrives at the home of the wealthy van Schendel family and talks his way into their lives. Richard, the father, wants nothing to do with him, but his wife Marina offers the stranger shelter and a bath. Borgman settles into the garden house and gradually becomes a quiet presence within the household, while the family's ordered existence begins to slip. The gardener disappears, Borgman adopts a new identity, and the children fall under his influence as well, leaving Marina increasingly drawn to him and unwilling to see him go.

Alex van Warmerdam directed and wrote the film, which follows The Northerners, Grimm and Waiter in his filmography, and he also appears among the cast as Ludwig. Jan Bijvoet leads as Borgman, with Hadewych Minis as Marina, Jeroen Perceval as Richard, Tom Dewispelaere as Pascal and Sara Hjort Ditlevsen as Stine. The production was a Dutch, Belgian and Danish effort made for around 3 million dollars.

On IMDb the film holds a 6.7 rating from roughly 20,000 votes, and on TMDB it has a 6.5 from a much smaller number of users. A critics' score of 7.2 from 61 reviews places it somewhat above the audience ratings. Its worldwide box office of about 1 million dollars is modest against the budget.
