Away We Go

Away We Go follows Burt and Verona, a couple in their early thirties expecting their first child. They have settled in Colorado to be near Burt's parents, but when those parents abruptly move to Belgium, the couple is left without the support they had counted on in a place they dislike. They set out across the United States, and beyond, visiting friends and relatives in a range of cities and climates, comparing the very different households they encounter. What begins as a search for somewhere to settle becomes a question of what kind of parents they want to be.

Sam Mendes directed the film, the sixth of the fifteen features he has made in chronological order, arriving between Revolutionary Road and Skyfall. Dave Eggers and Vendela Vida wrote the screenplay, and the leads are John Krasinski as Burt Farlander and Maya Rudolph as Verona De Tessant, with Carmen Ejogo, Catherine O'Hara, Jeff Daniels and Allison Janney among the supporting cast. Roughly 28 cast members and 46 crew are credited.

Released in June 2009, the film runs 98 minutes and blends comedy, drama and romance. Made for about 17 million US dollars, it took in around 16 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 7 out of 10 from 57,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.7 out of 10 from 661 votes, while a critics' rating stands at 6.8 out of 10 from 192 reviews, putting critics and audiences closely in line.
