Dance Flick follows Thomas, a street dancer from a poor neighborhood, whose life takes a turn when he meets Megan, a wealthy suburban girl who dreams of becoming a dancer. The two join forces to compete in a major dance battle, a partnership that draws on their shared love of dance while throwing them into a series of comic situations.
Released in 2009, the film is a dance-movie spoof from the Wayans family. Damien Dante Wayans directed, while Marlon, Keenen Ivory and Shawn Wayans wrote and produced, the same team behind the Scary Movie series, which targeted horror films here turned toward the teen dance movies that were popular at the time. Shoshana Bush and Damon Wayans Jr. lead the cast as Megan and Thomas, with Essence Atkins, Affion Crockett, David Alan Grier and Shawn Wayans among the supporting players.
Made for about 25 million dollars, the film took in roughly 31 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds a critics' rating of 3.6 out of 10 from 96 reviews, while audiences on TMDB give it 5 out of 10 from 312 votes, a gap that suggests viewers were somewhat warmer toward the comedy than reviewers were.
