Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!

Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! centres on Lovinder "Lucky" Singh, a thief whose charm and nerve allow him to steal from Delhi's wealthy while staying one step ahead of the law. Told largely in retrospect, after he is taken into custody and awaits trial, the film follows his rise from an ordinary middle-class background to a life of luxury goods and high living. His ambition grows beyond money: he wants the status and respect of a gentleman, and he is willing to risk his freedom to get it. The press, meanwhile, tries to work out how he evaded capture for so long.

Dibakar Banerjee directed the film, his first feature, from a screenplay by Urmi Juvekar; Ronnie Screwvala produced it for UTV Motion Pictures. Abhay Deol plays the adult Lucky, with Manjot Singh as his younger self. Paresh Rawal appears in three separate roles, and Neetu Chandra, Manu Rishi Chadha and Archana Puran Singh round out the cast. Made on a budget of about one million dollars, it took roughly twice that at the worldwide box office. On IMDb it holds 7.7/10 from around 19,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 7/10 from around a hundred votes, a small sample that limits how much the two can be compared. Banerjee went on to direct Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!, Lust Stories, Ghost Stories and LSD 2: Love, Sex aur Dhokha 2.
