Lymelife

Lymelife is a coming-of-age comedy-drama set on Long Island in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Fifteen-year-old Scott Bartlett is at an age when the adults he has trusted most, his father Mickey, his mother Brenda and his older brother Jimmy, turn out to be more flawed and complicated than he believed. Around him, two suburban families come apart under the strain of marital infidelity, financial and property troubles, and an outbreak of Lyme disease that spreads fear through the community. Scott's feelings for Adriana, the girl next door, and his contact with her parents, give him a different vantage point on what is happening to both households.

The film was directed by Derick Martini, who wrote the screenplay with Steven Martini. It was his first feature as director, followed years later by Hick; Alec Baldwin, Jonathan Cornick and Barbara De Fina produced. Rory Culkin plays Scott, with Jill Hennessy as Brenda, Emma Roberts as Adriana, Alec Baldwin as Mickey, Kieran Culkin as Jimmy and Timothy Hutton as Charlie. Made for about two million dollars, it runs 95 minutes and belongs to a strain of small-scale American family drama.
