Michael Corben is a high-school student who travels to France with his French class, and at the airport he is mistaken for a CIA agent who happens to share his name. British intelligence recruits him on the spot, fitting him out with spy gadgets, while the villainous Augustus Steranko and his associate Ilsa Grunt pursue their own plans and send killers after him. Michael goes along with the case, and his trip turns into a series of dangerous encounters rather than a language course.
The 1991 action comedy was directed by William Dear, working from a screenplay by Darren Star. It followed Dear's Harry and the Hendersons and preceded Angels in the Outfield in a run of films that also includes Amazing Stories and later titles such as Wild America and The Perfect Game. Richard Grieco plays the young man at the centre, with Gabrielle Anwar, Roger Rees, Linda Hunt, Robin Bartlett and Carole Davis among a credited cast of 29. Warner Bros. Pictures produced the film, which runs 88 minutes and took in about 8 million USD worldwide, a modest return.
On IMDb it holds 5.8/10 from around 8,300 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.1/10 from 183 votes. A critics' rating of 3.5/10 from seven reviews places it below both audience scores.
