Taxi 4 is a French action comedy in which the Marseille police are handed a notorious Belgian criminal to hold for a single night before he is sent to Africa to face trial. The bumbling Émilien is put in charge of guarding him, and the prisoner quickly talks his way into convincing the officer that he is an innocent embassy employee rather than the manhunt's target. Once the mistake becomes clear, Émilien has to track the fugitive down, and he turns to his friend Daniel, a taxi driver with a heavily modified car, for help. Bernard Farcy's Commissaire Gibert and Emma Wiklund's Petra are drawn into the pursuit.
The film is the fourth entry in the Taxi series and reunites director Gérard Krawczyk with the franchise after Taxi 2 and Taxi 3, following earlier work such as L'été en pente douce and Wasabi. Luc Besson wrote the screenplay and produced alongside Laurent and Michèle Pétin. Samy Naceri and Frédéric Diefenthal return as Daniel and Émilien, with a credited cast of about fifty.
Released in 2007, the film runs 91 minutes. Made for roughly 17 million dollars, it took about 65 million dollars worldwide, a strong return on its budget. Audience scores are modest and consistent: it holds 5.6/10 on IMDb from around 33,000 votes and 5.6/10 on TMDB from a smaller base of about 1,400.
