When their father dies, four adult siblings return to the family home and are asked to remain there together for a week of mourning, as he wished. Judd, Wendy, Paul and Phillip arrive with their own troubles: marriages that have frayed or ended, old grievances and unfinished business. Their outspoken mother, their partners, former partners and people from their past all pass through the house during the week, turning the shared grief into a series of confrontations and reconciliations. The comedy comes from the friction of so many people crowded together, while the drama comes from what the siblings finally say to one another.

The film is directed by Shawn Levy, the tenth of the seventeen features he has directed to date, following The Internship and preceding Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb. Jonathan Tropper wrote the screenplay, and the cast includes Jason Bateman as Judd, Tina Fey as Wendy, Jane Fonda as Hillary, Adam Driver as Phillip, Rose Byrne as Penny and Corey Stoll as Paul, among thirty-eight credited performers.

Made for about 20 million dollars, it took roughly 41 million dollars worldwide, a modest return. On IMDb it holds 6.7 out of 10 from around 94,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.7 out of 10 from about 1,500 votes, indicating a generally favorable audience response. A critics' rating of 5.5 out of 10 from 166 reviews places it lower with reviewers than with viewers.
