Short description
She's Funny That Way is a comedy about a Broadway theatre director whose life is thrown into disarray when a woman he once hired as an escort turns up at an audition for his new play. Arnold Albertson, married and comfortably settled, has paid Izzy Patterson to leave sex work and pursue acting. Neither expects to meet again, least of all in a casting room where the production also involves his wife, an established actress, and her long-time stage partner. Izzy wins a part in the play, setting off a tangle of romantic and professional complications among the people around the production.
Peter Bogdanovich directed from a screenplay he wrote with Louise Stratten, and the film stands late in a directing career that began with Targets in 1968 and includes The Last Picture Show and Paper Moon. Owen Wilson plays Arnold, with Imogen Poots as Izzy, Kathryn Hahn as his wife Delta, Will Forte as the playwright Joshua Fleet and Rhys Ifans as Seth Gilbert. Wes Anderson, Noah Baumbach and Holly Wiersma produced. It runs 93 minutes.
Released in 2015, the film earned about 3 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a critics' rating of 5.3 out of 10 from 99 reviews, somewhat below the audience score of 5.9 out of 10 on TMDB from 723 votes. Both sit near the middle of the scale, suggesting a modest reception on each side.
