Leap Year

Anna Brady, an apartment stylist from Boston, grows tired of waiting for her boyfriend Jeremy to propose. A Celtic tradition holds that a woman may ask a man to marry her on February 29, and that he is bound to accept. With Jeremy away in Dublin, Anna flies to Ireland to surprise him on that date. Bad weather interrupts her journey, leaving her far from the capital, and she reluctantly accepts help from Declan, the wary owner of a small inn whose experiences with women have made him avoid both cities and commitment. His knowledge of the country, and his ability to annoy Anna, carry them toward Dublin as she clings to her deadline.

The film is a comedy directed by Anand Tucker, who made Shopgirl and And When Did You Last See Your Father? beforehand and has since directed two further features. Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont wrote it, and Amy Adams and Matthew Goode play Anna and Declan, with Adam Scott as Jeremy, John Lithgow as Anna's father, and smaller roles filled by Noel O'Donovan and Tony Rohr. It was released in January 2010 and runs for 100 minutes.

On IMDb the film holds a rating of 4.3 out of 10 from 144 critics' reviews, while on TMDB viewers give it 6.9 from over two thousand votes, a wide gap between professional and audience opinion. Made for 19 million dollars, it earned 33 million worldwide.
