Los Bandoleros is a short film that serves as a prequel to the fourth installment of the Fast & Furious series. It follows Dominic Toretto after he has fled Los Angeles and gone into hiding in the Dominican Republic, where he makes a living by hijacking tanker trucks. The story also shows how the central characters first met and came together before the fuel-truck robbery that opens the later feature.
Vin Diesel wrote the screenplay with T.J. Mancini, directed the short and produced it alongside Jessy Terrero and Samantha Vincent. Diesel plays Dominic Toretto, with Michelle Rodriguez as Letty Ortiz, Sung Kang as Han Lue, Tego Calderón as Tego Leo, Don Omar as Rico Santos and Juan Fernández as Elvis. The film runs twenty minutes and mixes Spanish and English dialogue, taking its title from a song by Don Omar and Tego Calderón.
Made between the first film and the fourth, Los Bandoleros was released in 2009 and later included with home-media editions of the fourth film. Reception from general audiences has been modest, with a rating of 5.6 out of 10 on IMDb from around 6,700 votes and 6.1 out of 10 on TMDB from roughly 389 votes.
