Marvel One-Shot: All Hail the King is a short film following Trevor Slattery, the actor who was hired to play the terrorist known as the Mandarin in Iron Man 3. Now a well-known figure, Slattery is serving time in a high-security prison, where his notoriety as the feared Mandarin gives him both fame and protection among the other inmates. He agrees to a filmed interview with a documentary maker named Jackson Norriss, who sees the meeting as his chance to push past Slattery's evasions and confront him with pieces of his own past in order to get at the truth.
The short was directed and written by Drew Pearce, who had worked on the screenplay for Iron Man 3, and produced by Kevin Feige for Marvel Studios. It is Pearce's first credited directing work, ahead of Hotel Artemis. Ben Kingsley reprises the role of Slattery, with Scoot McNairy as Norriss, Sam Rockwell returning as Justin Hammer, and Lester Speight, Matt Gerald and Allen Maldonado in supporting parts.
At fourteen minutes, it is a brief comedic action piece, and audiences responded well to it: on IMDb it holds a 7.2 rating from roughly 15,000 votes, while on TMDB its 6.8 comes from about 650 votes. The larger vote count on IMDb and the slightly higher score there suggest a generally positive reception among the viewers who sought it out.
