Sisters
Short description
Maura and Kate Ellis are sisters with little in common. Maura is a nurse and a dependable, helpful person, while Kate is impulsive and has trouble holding down a job or keeping her teenage daughter from drifting away. When their parents decide to sell the family home, the two return to their hometown to clear out their childhood bedrooms while their parents are away. Unhappy about losing the house, they come up with a plan to stop the sale: throw a large party with their old high school classmates, hoping the chaos will scare off buyers. The night brings former friends together and pushes the sisters to face where their lives have gone.
Released in December 2015, the comedy runs 118 minutes and was directed by Jason Moore, following his 2012 film Pitch Perfect and preceding Shotgun Wedding. Paula Pell wrote the screenplay, and Tina Fey produced alongside John S. Lyons and Jay Roach. Fey and Amy Poehler lead the cast as Kate and Maura, with Maya Rudolph, Dianne Wiest, John Leguizamo and Ike Barinholtz among the 68 credited cast members.
Made for a budget of 30 million US dollars, the film took in about 105 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6 out of 10 from roughly 68,600 votes, and on TMDB it also sits at 6 out of 10, from about 1,500 votes. A critics' rating of 5.9 out of 10, based on 179 reviews, places it close to those audience scores.
