London Has Fallen

Mike Banning, a Secret Service agent, travels to London with US President Benjamin Asher for the state funeral of the British prime minister, who has died in unclear circumstances. The gathering of Western leaders, meant to be one of the most heavily protected events imaginable, is turned into a trap: a coordinated attack targets the visiting heads of state and strikes at landmarks across the city. Banning manages to get the president away from the initial assault, and together with Vice President Alan Trumbull, who remains in Washington, they work to counter the conspiracy while its organizers demand that Banning be handed over.

Babak Najafi directed the film, the first of three features he has made to date, followed by Proud Mary and The Florist. The screenplay was written by Christian Gudegast, Chad St. John and Katrin Benedikt, and Gerard Butler, who plays Banning, also served as a producer. Aaron Eckhart returns as President Asher, with Angela Bassett as Lynne Jacobs, Morgan Freeman as Trumbull, Melissa Leo as Defense Secretary Ruth McMillan and Robert Forster as General Edward Clegg among a credited cast of 49.

Made for about 60 million dollars, the film took roughly 206 million dollars worldwide, a strong return on its budget. Audiences are divided: on IMDb it holds 5.9 out of 10 from more than 166,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.2 out of 10 from over 5,000 votes, while a film critics' rating of 4.1 out of 10 from 197 reviews is noticeably lower.
