Short description

Set during the Second World War, Puppet Master III: Toulon's Revenge follows Andre Toulon, a puppeteer whose stage act mocks the Nazi regime. When Nazi officers learn that his puppets move without strings, they suspect he has found a way to give life to lifeless things and want that secret for their own military purposes. Their pursuit turns violent, and Toulon turns to his animated puppets to take his revenge, hiding with a group of political refugees while he plots against those who wronged him.

The film is the third entry in the Puppet Master series and the third feature directed by David DeCoteau, following Nightmare Sisters and preceding Beach Babes from Beyond. C. Courtney Joyner wrote the screenplay, and DeCoteau produced the film with John Schouweiler for Full Moon Entertainment. Guy Rolfe plays Toulon, with Richard Lynch as Major Krauss, Ian Abercrombie as Dr. Hess, Kristopher Logan as Lt. Eric Stein, Aron Eisenberg as Peter Hertz, and Walter Gotell as General Mueller. Running 82 minutes, the film mixes fantasy, horror and science fiction.

On TMDB, the film holds a rating of 6.4 out of 10 from 193 votes, a modest but positive showing for a low-budget horror sequel that places the series' origin story in wartime Europe.

What's left behind the scenes

  • At the end of the film, Major Kraus is suspended by four ropes, but in the close-up shots, there is only one rope.
  • A new doll appears, the "Six-Barreled Shooter," which has three pairs of arms, each holding a machine gun.
  • The first film reported that Toulon committed suicide in 1939. This film takes place in 1941, but Toulon is still alive.
  • This film serves as a prequel to the two previous ones.
