The Tribe
Short description
Sergey, a deaf-mute teenager, joins a specialized boarding school for the hearing impaired. Within the facility, he discovers a criminal organization called The Tribe that controls the school through robbery and prostitution. To establish his place in the hierarchy, Sergey participates in the group's illegal activities. However, his rise through the ranks is complicated when he falls in love with Anya, a woman belonging to the group's leader, leading him to defy the organization's strict unwritten laws.
Written and directed by Myroslav Slaboshpytskyi, this 2014 crime drama was the first feature film he directed, followed by Animals in War in 2025. The movie stars Hryhoriy Fesenko as Sergei and Yana Novikova as Anya, with supporting performances by Rosa Babiy, Oleksandr Dsiadevych, Oleksandr Osadchyi, and Ivan Tishko.
The film has received generally positive responses. It holds a rating of 6.7/10 on TMDB based on 330 votes. Film critics have given the movie a higher score than the general audience, with a rating of 7.7/10 from 131 reviews.
