The Great Hypnotist

The Great Hypnotist centers on Xu Ruining, a well-known psychotherapist whose career is on the rise. His university professor asks him to take on a difficult patient, Ren Xiaoyan, a young woman who insists she can see ghosts. Xu Ruining agrees to treat her, but the sessions do not go as he expects; the patient resists him at every turn and the case pulls him into territory he cannot easily control. What begins as a professional challenge becomes something far more unsettling for the therapist himself.

Leste Chen directs and co-wrote the screenplay with Ren Peng. The film is a Chinese production from Wanda Pictures and Wanda Media Co., running 104 minutes, and it blends drama, mystery and thriller elements. Xu Zheng plays Xu Ruining, with Karen Mok Man-Wai as Ren Xiaoyan, Lü Zhong as Professor Fang and Cady Yang as Amy. The film was released in April 2014.

On TMDB it holds a rating of 6.7 out of 10 from 103 votes, a reception that suggests a modest but positive response from those who have logged it.
