Wonderful World is a 2009 American comedy-drama written and directed by Joshua Goldin. It follows Ben Singer, a former children's folk singer who now works as a proofreader, sees his daughter only on weekends, and treats pessimism as a settled fact of life. His one reliable pleasure is the time he spends playing chess and arguing about game theory with his Senegalese roommate Ibu. When Ibu falls seriously ill, Ben's bleak view of the world appears confirmed, until Ibu's sister Khadi arrives from Senegal to look after her brother and stays on in the apartment.
Matthew Broderick leads the cast as Ben, with Sanaa Lathan as Khadi and Michael Kenneth Williams as Ibu. Philip Baker Hall, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Jodelle Ferland appear in supporting roles. The film runs 89 minutes and was produced by Miranda Bailey, Matthew Leutwyler and Glenn Williamson through Ambush Entertainment, Cold Iron Pictures, Back Lot Pictures and K5 International.
Reception was modest. On IMDb it holds 6 out of 10 from around 2,500 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.2 from a much smaller group of 54 voters. A critics' rating of 5.5 from 31 reviews places it slightly below the IMDb audience figure and above the TMDB one.
