Short description
Lainey and Jake first meet as college students, when a chance encounter ends with a night together on a dormitory roof. Twelve years later in New York, both have developed the same habit: they can't stay faithful, and it has wrecked one relationship after another. A meeting for people struggling with sex addiction brings them back into each other's lives, and they discover a shared history neither expected to revisit. They decide to support each other's efforts to change while keeping their own relationship strictly platonic, a promise that becomes harder to keep as time passes.
Leslye Headland wrote and directed the film, her second feature after Bachelorette in 2012. Jason Sudeikis plays Jake and Alison Brie plays Lainey, with Adam Scott, Jason Mantzoukas, Natasha Lyonne and Adam Brody in supporting roles. Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Sidney Kimmel are among the producers.
The film grossed about 3 million dollars worldwide against a modest production. It holds a 6.1 out of 10 critics' rating on 135 reviews and a 6.3 out of 10 on TMDB from roughly a thousand votes, a narrow gap suggesting critics and audiences responded to it in similar terms.

- The film was screened in the non-competitive program of the Sundance Film Festival (a national American festival of independent cinema). The premiere took place on January 24, 2015. The film was enthusiastically received by critics.
- Kirsten Dunst was initially planned to star in the film, but she had to decline due to commitments to other projects.
- When Xander calls Jake during the end credits, the screen of his phone does not turn off throughout the entire conversation.
- Following its success at Sundance, the film was shown at the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival. All tickets for the screening were sold out.
- Adam Scott and Jason Mantzoukas had previously worked together on the series Parks and Recreation (2009), where they played Ben Wyatt and Denis Feinstein, respectively.
