Now You See Me 2 returns to the world of illusionists who use their performances as cover for elaborate crimes. A year after they outmaneuvered the FBI and won public sympathy with shows that targeted corrupt figures, the group known as the Four Horsemen reappears. Their comeback brings them into conflict with a technology magnate who draws them into a scheme of his own, forcing them to attempt an exceptionally difficult heist. They must protect their reputations and expose the person manipulating events, while the new enemy stays several steps ahead of them.
Jon M. Chu directed the film, the eighth of the thirteen features he has made in chronological order, following Jem and the Holograms and preceding Crazy Rich Asians. Ed Solomon wrote the screenplay, and the producers were Bobby Cohen, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. The returning cast includes Jesse Eisenberg as J. Daniel Atlas, Mark Ruffalo as Dylan Rhodes, Woody Harrelson as Merritt McKinney, Dave Franco as Jack Wilder and Lizzy Caplan as Lula, with Daniel Radcliffe appearing as Walter Mabry. The production involved 39 credited cast members and 126 credited crew members.
The film was released in June 2016 and runs 129 minutes. Made for about 90 million dollars, it earned roughly 335 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.4 out of 10 from around 359,000 votes, while on TMDB it has 6.8 out of 10 from about 11,800 votes. A critics' rating of 4.9 out of 10 from 197 reviews places it below both audience scores.
